The Portuguese Navy carried out 60 sea rescues during the month of August, in a total of 43 search and rescue operations coordinated by its centers. These numbers refer only to the month of August.
The Lisbon region concentrated the overwhelming majority of operations, with 46 people rescued in that area. This means that the vast majority of rescue activity took place on the coast or surrounding waters of the Portuguese capital.
Since the beginning of the year, the Navy has already saved 313 lives at sea, which gives a broader perspective on the volume of rescue operations carried out throughout 2024.
The Navy's centers are responsible for coordinating maritime search and rescue operations in Portuguese waters, a function that proved particularly intense during the summer period.
