The Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, announced that the National Health Service needs approximately 850 to 870 new nurses to address existing shortages. The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region concentrates about two-thirds of these professional needs. The Ministry of Health intends to invest in hiring new nurses and extending the operating hours of health units during the second half of the year. This strategy emerges as a response to the gaps identified in the Portuguese public health system.
