Fake videos, guaranteed profits and pressure to decide: CMVM warns of new scams

SOL1 September 2026 at 12:22

The CMVM (Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários) issued an alert about new financial scams that are emerging in Portugal. These frauds use fake videos, promises of guaranteed profits, and pressure tactics to force victims to make quick decisions.

The scammers contact potential victims unexpectedly through multiple channels, including phone calls, SMS, WhatsApp, email, and social media like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

The CMVM recommends that investors be suspicious of any unsolicited communication that promises guaranteed returns and that they always verify the legitimacy of investments before acting.

USA: private sector creates 38,000 new jobs in August

The US private sector created only 38,000 new jobs in August, below market expectations and the lowest since January, according to ADP data. Gains were concentrated in healthcare and education, tourism and hospitality, and construction, while industry, professional and business services recorded losses. This weak reading of the labor market, which reflects a pattern of "not firing, not hiring," may reduce the odds of an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve as early as September, despite official US employment data not being released until Friday.
