Portugal summons Russian ambassador after hybrid attacks in Germany

Portugal will summon the Russian ambassador to demand explanations about hybrid drone attacks at Leipzig airport in Germany, after Berlin attributed responsibility to Russia. Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel announced the measure upon arrival at an informal EU foreign ministers meeting in Ireland, anticipating a "very strong" reaction from the European Union to the incident. The ministers will discuss possible measures today, including an expanded sanctions package against individuals and companies, as well as preventive measures for cybersecurity and protection of airspace and critical infrastructure. Germany held Russia responsible for the drone attack attempt at Leipzig airport in August, which contained explosives and targeted cargo planes used to send military aid to Ukraine. Rangel also noted that all member states are feeling Russian hybrid threats, giving the example of Ireland, which has faced several incidents, including at airports.
