The Rio de Janeiro government launched on Wednesday the program Management in Numbers, instituted and regulated as a state policy through a decree published in the Official Gazette. The launch was made by interim governor Ricardo Couto. The program has a new website (gestaoemnumeros.planejamento.rj.gov.br/inicio) that presents interactive dashboards with government data.
According to the secretary of Planning and Management, Rafael Ventura Abreu, the new platform expands the transparency of public data. The website allows querying information about which government vehicles consume the most fuel and where they refuel, which agencies concentrate the largest fleets, who are the main suppliers of the state, what was purchased and from whom, in addition to the behavior of public sector expenses with airline tickets in recent years.
The platform also brings data about organized crime, indicating that drug trafficking drone operators received R$ 1.2 thousand per week to monitor police and rivals. The areas of TCP Méier and Tijuca are pointed out as the most affected by this type of criminal activity.
Another data revealed by the program is that the theft of traffic light cables in Rio has already caused R$ 27 million in losses over five years. With the new tool, the population can access these and other government information with a few clicks, increasing social control over the state public administration.
