ICE maintains record pace and arrests approximately 50,000 immigrants in August in the US

Agents of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested approximately 50,000 people during the month of August, according to preliminary data released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The number maintains the record pace established in July, when the agency reached one of the highest monthly volumes of detentions since the beginning of President Donald Trump's second term.

The upward trend in detentions began in May, after a significant decline recorded in February and March. June and July had already recorded record numbers, and August confirmed the continuation of this escalation. Current operations are being carried out in a less visible manner than the major actions at the beginning of the year, although enforcement remains intense across various regions of the country.

The increase in detentions occurs simultaneously with the expansion of the American government structure for immigration operations. New resources have been allocated to ICE and Border Patrol, including investments in detention centers, infrastructure, and equipment for immigration enforcement and control.

The figures released refer to arrests and detentions made by ICE, not necessarily representing the total number of deportations carried out during the period. For millions of immigrants with pending or irregular immigration situations, the data represent a new alert, indicating that immigration remains one of the main priorities of the current administration.
