Bonga draws crowds to Festas da Guia and helps break visitor record

Festas da Guia took place on August 29 and 30 in the municipality of Albufeira and recorded one of the highest public turnouts ever. The event brought together residents and visitors around local traditions, gastronomy, music and religious celebrations.

The religious program included on Saturday a mass and procession from the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia, and on Sunday a mass and procession from the Main Church, in honor of Our Lady of Guia and Saint Louis.

The largest gathering of public occurred on Saturday, when the Polidesportivo da Guia reached a record number of visitors on a night that featured as its main highlight the concert by Bonga. On Sunday, Ruth Marlene's performance was ultimately cancelled due to health reasons.

The president of the Junta de Freguesia da Guia, Dinis Nascimento, stated that the number of people demonstrates the importance of these festivities for the parish, fulfilling the objective of keeping religious and cultural traditions alive. The local council publicly thanked the involvement of residents, volunteers, associations, artists, technical teams, security forces, rescue services, the Parish of Guia and the Municipality of Albufeira.

"Fruit Heroes" Opens Registrations for the New School Year in the Algarve

Father and son united in the preservation of the Miranda donkey

In Miranda do Douro, Trás-os-Montes, Mário André Pinto, 32 years old, and his father José Mário Pinto dedicate themselves to the preservation of the Miranda donkey, a breed that for centuries was indispensable to agricultural work in the region. The family has a tradition with these animals since the grandfather, who used them to open furrows, transport loads and work the land, before the mechanization of small farms. The interest in the conservation of the breed arose after family research, when they realized they were facing a unique heritage that today survives thanks to the effort of only about five hundred breeders spread across the country.
