The floods that devastated areas along the border between Nepal and China have so far caused 1,114 dead, according to the latest toll from Nepalese authorities. The number of missing stands at 3,916 people.

Nepalese authorities continue to carry out search and rescue operations in the affected regions, trying to locate survivors among the rubble and flooded areas.

Among the thousands of missing are four Portuguese citizens, confirmed by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Consular authorities are monitoring the situation and providing assistance to the families involved.

The disaster caused massive destruction in the riverside and mountainous areas of the border region, where several communities were left isolated due to the advance of the waters and landslides.
