Two operations carried out this Tuesday investigate suspected groups of running the "fake lawyer" scam in Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo. The actions took place in cities in both states and resulted in the arrest of suspects believed to be part of schemes that used lawyers' identities to approach victims.
In Rio Grande do Norte, the Civil Police launched the second phase of Operation Falsus Causidicus, with support from the Civil Police of Ceará and Ciberlab from the Ministry of Justice. Four preventive detention orders and 15 search and seizure warrants were executed.
The investigation examines fraud committed through messaging applications. According to the findings, the suspects created fake profiles and presented themselves as lawyers, deceiving victims to obtain illegitimate financial gains.
