Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of São Tomé and Príncipe, in a visit that marks his first official trip to the country. Montenegro traveled to the archipelago to reaffirm Portugal's commitment to bilateral relations with São Tomé and Príncipe.
During this visit, the head of the Portuguese government aimed to underline the priority Portugal places on its bilateral relationship with the African nation. This diplomatic gesture comes within the framework of strengthening the historical ties and cooperation between the two nations.
Montenegro's trip to São Tomé and Príncipe is part of his first international initiatives as prime minister, demonstrating the importance the Portuguese executive attaches to its former colony and strategic partner in the Gulf of Guinea.
