The dispute for the government is shaping up among three main names: Daniel Vilela (MDB), Marconi Perillo (PSDB) and Wilder Morais himself. Daniel Vilela appears leading the polls and is the successor of presidential candidate Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), which reinforces his position as the favorite in the electoral race.
Fellow party mayors from the PL have been joining Vilela's campaign, contrary to the party's orientation. The most recent case is that of the mayor of Anápolis, Márcio Corrêa, who was elected by the PL in 2024 with support from the party and former President Jair Bolsonaro. Last Saturday, Corrêa declared support for Vilela, stating that the candidate "is a governor who gets things done."
Faced with the situation, the PL in Goiás threatened to open disciplinary proceedings against mayors who disregard the party's decision. This movement highlights the difficulty Wilder Morais faces in keeping the party united around his candidacy for the state government, in a dispute that is shaping up among three main names.
