Mozambique faces a cholera epidemic that infected more than 9,700 people and caused 91 deaths over a year, according to the available data on the outbreak.
The disease spread throughout the country, reaching its peak in early 2026, when at least 42 districts had active cholera transmission.
In this critical phase, the outbreak was officially classified as an epidemic, reflecting the severity and extent of the disease's spread in Mozambican communities.
Health authorities faced significant challenges in combating the disease, which mainly affects populations with limited access to clean water and adequate sanitation conditions.
