SAPO Notícias2 September 2026 at 07:34

Mozambique has been facing a cholera epidemic for a year that has already infected more than 9,700 people and caused 91 deaths, according to official data. In the last month alone, more than 150 new cases and two deaths related to the disease were registered.

Cholera is an infectious disease transmitted mainly through contaminated water or food, which causes acute diarrhea, vomiting, and severe dehydration, and can lead to death if not treated quickly.

Mozambican authorities have been monitoring the epidemic situation, compiling data on the evolution of cases and deaths over the past twelve months.

The outbreak continues to represent a public health challenge in the country, with the most vulnerable population at greater risk of contracting and dying from the disease.
