Joshua Wong, a pro-democracy activist from Hong Kong, pleaded guilty to collusion with foreign powers during a trial held today. The case proceeds under the national security law imposed by Beijing on the region.
Wong is an internationally known figure in the fight for civil liberties in Hong Kong. The trial comes after years of political activism that have earned him multiple previous convictions.
The national security law was imposed by Beijing in 2020 and has been used to repress opposition in the region. Several pro-democracy leaders have already been arrested or forced into exile since its implementation.
