The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning for heat in eleven districts of mainland Portugal, which will be in effect on Thursday and Friday. This warning is due to the forecast of hot weather that will be felt in these regions over the coming days.
Due to this meteorological situation, IPMA also raised the rural fire danger level to very high in 30 municipalities across the country, all of them placed in this danger category during this Wednesday.
For the southern region of Portuguese territory, the weather forecast also indicates the possibility of dust occurrence in the atmosphere during Thursday, which could contribute to a greater sensation of heat and thermal discomfort.
Authorities recommend prudence to the population, especially in rural and forest areas covered by the very high fire danger, asking for special attention to the use of fire and prevention behaviors during this period of intense heat.
