The Public Prosecutor's Office of Rio de Janeiro is investigating possible cases of overcrowding in sectors of the Maracanã during matches with Flamengo and Fluminense as home teams. The MP-RJ stated that new documents will be incorporated into the records of the civil inquiry in the coming days. The Fla-Flu Serviços S.A. consortium, responsible for stadium management, has 15 days to provide clarifications about access control to the agency.
The consortium's legal department is leading the response work to the Public Prosecutor's Office. Antonio Panza, the consortium's legal director and former Flamengo director, has not commented on the case. Flamengo and Fluminense have also not provided comments on the investigation.
The consortium stated that it will provide the Public Prosecutor's Office with all necessary information about access control within the stipulated deadline. The investigation is being conducted by the Specialized Acting Group for Sports and Supporter Defense of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The civil inquiry was instituted on August 26 by the prosecutor's office. The case specifically involves situations of overcrowding in sectors of the Maracanã during games of the two Rio teams.
