Jordan intercepts 10 ballistic missiles fired from Iran that also targeted Bahrain

RTP Notícias2 September 2026 at 06:50

The Jordanian army intercepted 10 ballistic missiles fired from Iran, according to a statement from the spokesperson for the Jordanian Armed Forces. The missiles were launched on Tuesday night, in an operation targeting targets related to the United States.

Iran publicly claimed responsibility for the attack, framing it as part of a wave of retaliation against American bases in the region. This attack comes after weeks of escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In addition to Jordan, Bahrain was another country targeted by Iranian missiles. The Kingdom of Bahrain hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, making it a strategic target for Tehran.

Jordanian authorities reported that the debris from the intercepted missiles fell in uninhabited areas, without causing fatalities. The incident marks a new escalation in regional conflict involving Iran and American interests in the Persian Gulf.
