Volkswagen is proceeding with the closure of factories and the dismissal of 100 thousand workers globally, in a deep restructuring process of the company. This measure comes in the context of a crisis faced by the German automotive group, which has been struggling with difficulties in the European market and the need to reduce operational costs.
The management of Volkswagen has been holding successive meetings with the unions to negotiate the terms of this restructuring. These conversations are considered fundamental to define the contours of the cuts plan and guarantee, as much as possible, labor stability during the reorganization process.
Despite the scenario of drastic cuts in other operations of the group, Volkswagen continues to bet on Autoeuropa, the factory located in Palmela, Portugal. This decision contrasts with the closure of other manufacturing units and suggests that management recognizes the value and productivity of the Portuguese operation.
