TSE rejects fine for Bolsonaro for using AI with father's image at convention

cbn2 September 2026 at 01:52

The Superior Electoral Court rejected the application of a fine to PL candidate for President, Bolsonaro, for the use of a video produced with artificial intelligence with the image of former President Jair Bolsonaro during the convention that formalized the candidacy. By four votes to three, the majority of ministers understood that there was no irregularity, since the content was displayed at a closed party event.

The court followed the vote of the president of the TSE, Nunes Marques, who considered that the internet transmission, with the use of deepfake, does not transform the convention into electoral propaganda directed at the electorate. According to Nunes Marques, political support manifestations made within a party convention are directed at party members and do not necessarily confuse with electoral propaganda.

The minister also highlighted that the legislation allows the disclosure of pre-candidacies and requests for political support, as long as there is no explicit vote request. The case was decided by a narrow majority, with three dissenting votes that understood that the use of deepfake technology should be punished with a fine.

The article is a political reflection on the impact of anonymous people in history, from Irena Sendler and Stanislav Petrov to Vasili Arkhipov, contrasting them with the "ferry anonymous" — a reference to the individual who, according to the author, blocks maritime transport solutions between Madeira and mainland Portugal, benefiting financially while the island remains without a ferry connection, something unique among European islands.

Who would have thought, Neves imitating Albuquerque in Madeira.

This opinion article criticizes the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, for adopting the same posture as the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, refusing to yield to political and media pressure to resign from his position. The author argues that both practice a "birds of a feather" policy, deflecting focus from resignation demands through field agendas and protocol greetings, while PSD leadership tries to avoid "domino effects". The text warns that this normalization of staying in office at all costs, only sustained by parliamentary majority support, wears down citizens' trust in democratic institutions and fuels the growth of populism and the far right, benefiting parties like Chega that present themselves as the only ones demanding consequences and political accountability.

What happens after the PGR requests nullification of the investigation against Moraes?

The PGR requested the nullification of the investigation opened by the STF against Justice Alexandre de Moraes, arguing that the investigation order was determined without a request from the Public Ministry or initiative from the Federal Police, exceeding the limits of judicial action in the pre-prosecutorial phase. Attorney General Paulo Gonet also advocates for the annulment of the evidence obtained and the dismissal of the petition in the case. Justice André Mendonça will forward the request to the full STF for analysis, after having already stated he would bring the matter to the other justices. Mendonça stated that the facts presented by the Federal Police need to be examined in a technical and legal manner, in a public and in-person session.
