Fintechs increase GDP by R$ 1.6 trillion in ten years and reduce costs with fees by R$ 149 billion, says study

A study by the Reglab research center, commissioned by Zetta (which brings together the country's largest fintechs, such as Nubank, Mercado Pago, and PicPay), revealed that digital financial institutions added R$ 1.6 trillion to Brazil's GDP between 2016 and 2026. Without fintechs, GDP in the first quarter of 2026 would be 2.2% lower, with emphasis on an increase of R$ 982 billion in consumption and R$ 371 billion in investments during the period. The research also calculated savings of R$ 149 billion for families and businesses in costs related to interest rates and bank fees, with R$ 102 billion referring to interest and the remainder to service charges. The analysis used a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) structural model.
