Germany accused Russia of being behind a drone attack attempt on Leipzig airport, classifying the incident as a hybrid attack. The accusation was made publicly by Berlin, significantly increasing diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
European allies expressed unanimous support for Germany after the accusation. Several European Union countries expressed solidarity with Berlin, reinforcing the European position against what they consider to be an intimidation attempt by Russia.
Russia categorically rejected the German accusations and criticized the measures imposed by Berlin. Moscow considered the German measures unfounded and announced it would respond "symmetrically" to the new sanctions or actions decided by Germany.
