Mendonça orders Lula's campaign to suspend 'Rap do Silva' propaganda due to omission of Alckmin's name

Minister André Mendonça, of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), ordered on Tuesday that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) campaign suspend the broadcast of an electoral advertisement that uses a version of "Rap do Silva" and does not present the name of the vice presidential candidate, Geraldo Alckmin. The decision partially fulfills an action filed by presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Mendonça ordered that Lula's coalition not resume airing the piece while it is not in compliance with electoral legislation rules, which require the identification of the vice presidential candidate in advertisements for coalitions running for majoritarian offices. The decision will still be submitted to the TSE plenary, including through a virtual session.

The action was filed by Jair Bolsonaro after the advertisement aired in the first block of electoral insertions last Friday, the 28th. According to the candidate's campaign, the piece was dedicated exclusively to Lula and made no reference to Alckmin.
