The European Union has suspended the import of picanha and other meats from Brazil. The measure recently came into effect, generating an impact on trade relations between the European bloc and the world's largest beef exporter.

According to the analysis presented, there is a suspicion that the technical requirements imposed by the European Union may have a protectionist political character, meaning that they are not based exclusively on sanitary or food safety reasons, but rather on the commercial interests of European countries.
