Francisco Pinto Balsemão gives his name to an avenue in Cascais. The ceremony for the naming took place in the city and constitutes a tribute to the political and media career of the businessman and former PSD president.

The avenue aims to recognize the role that Francisco Pinto Balsemão played in defending press freedom in Portugal. His trajectory in this area is considered fundamental for the consolidation of Portuguese democracy after April 25.

Beyond the political dimension, the tribute also recognizes the transformative role that Balsemão had in the Portuguese media. He was the founder of the weekly Expresso and of SIC, the first Portuguese private television, having contributed decisively to the modernization of the audiovisual sector in the country.

Francisco Pinto Balsemão was also president of the Social Democratic Party, having held political office at the highest level. The naming of an avenue in Cascais thus appears as public recognition of the entirety of his intervention in service to Portugal.
