One of the main impasses in the text involves the possibility of requiring companies benefiting from the end of the so-called "blusinhas tax" to transport packages through Correios, in an attempt to give the state-owned company a lifeline, which has been recording record losses in recent months. The inclusion of Correios' exclusivity in transporting these packages is one of the points under negotiation.
After being approved by the joint committee, the MP still needs to go through votes in the floors of the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate to continue its legislative process. The postponement creates uncertainties about the implementation timeline of the measure, which aims to eliminate the tax on low-value international purchases.
