Chega leader André Ventura decided to delay by one day the final decision on a motion of censure against the Government, following the case involving the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves. In statements at the Assembly of the Republic, after meeting the party's national leadership and parliamentary group, Ventura said that Chega "has not yet made any decision" on the motion it had promised to present if Luís Montenegro did not dismiss Luís Neves.
Ventura criticised the minister's "arrogance" and confirmed he had spoken with the President of the Republic, António José Seguro, but refused to reveal the content of the conversation. The Chega leader classified Luís Neves' most recent speech as "impressive, unspeakable, unqualifiable".
Luís Neves, who was speaking this morning at a press conference on the island of Madeira, rejected the accusations against him, calling them lies, and guaranteed he would fulfil his mandate until the end, stating: "They can keep shouting, I will keep governing".
The PS secretary-general, José Luís Carneiro, who was speaking on the sidelines of a dinner in Maputo with Portuguese and Mozambican businessmen, warned that the case is "degrading the political authority" of the State and that the prime minister must not give reasons to allow Chega's "pyrotechnic effects".
