Judge Ronnie Herbert Barros Soares, from the Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo (TRE-SP), prohibited candidate for state deputy Lucas Bove (PL) from using the image of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in his campaign material. The decision was made this Tuesday (1st) in the context of a representation filed by councilwoman from Ribeirão Preto and candidate for state deputy Duda Hidalgo (PT), from the Workers' Party.
The magistrate understood that, since the Supreme Federal Court (STF) prohibited former president Jair Bolsonaro from making any type of political-electoral statement, his image could not appear in campaign material, as this would give the impression that Bolsonaro would be expressing support for candidate Lucas Bove.
Duda Hidalgo reported the distribution and fixation of campaign materials in Ribeirão Preto, including totems placed on streets of the city, which showed Bove next to Jair Bolsonaro. Bove's defense argued in the case that the reproduction of the former president's image is not equivalent to personal, current and active participation in the campaign.
