The solidarity statements come at a time of growing tension between Western countries and Russia, in the context of the war in Ukraine.
Von der Leyen and Rutte demonstrated unequivocal support for Germany, reinforcing the joint position of the European Union and NATO regarding what they consider to be a Russian threat to European security.
