Russia advances less in August in Ukraine

Observador1 September 2026 at 19:34

Russian territorial gains in Ukraine during the month of August were significantly lower than those recorded in previous months of 2025, when the monthly average was around 405 km². This slowdown represents a notable change in the pace of the Russian military advance.

Russia currently occupies more than 19 percent of Ukrainian territory, a proportion that has been increasing throughout the conflict, although the speed of this expansion has decreased in the last month.

This reduction in the pace of advance occurs at a time when the conflict is approaching its third year, suggesting possible logistical difficulties or continued resistance from Ukrainian forces.

The data indicate that, despite the slowdown in August, Moscow continues to control a substantial portion of Ukraine's territory, maintaining its position as the occupying power in the conflict.
