The EU indicates that it does not have "conclusive evidence" that Russia caused the crisis in Ceuta

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General1 September 2026 at 19:14

The EU External Action Service (EEAS) indicated that it identified attempts by Russia to take advantage of the migratory crisis in Ceuta, although it does not have evidence demonstrating that the massive entry of tens of thousands of migrants at the end of July was caused by disinformation from foreign state actors.

This position was confirmed to the EFE agency by a community spokesperson, acknowledging that, despite monitoring efforts, the available evidence is not sufficient to affirm that the crisis was deliberately instigated by Moscow.

The migratory crisis in Ceuta, which occurred at the end of July, involved the entry of tens of thousands of people in the Spanish city, generating a humanitarian and political emergency situation on the southern European border.

The EEAS maintains continuous surveillance over possible disinformation operations, but in this specific case, did not find conclusive elements that directly link the Russian government to the provocation of the migratory crisis in Ceuta.
