The vice-president of the Funchal City Council, Carlos Rodrigues, harshly criticized the speech of the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, in a Facebook post. Rodrigues considered the moment "one of the most cringe-worthy moments in politics" and stated he felt "secondhand embarrassment" while watching the speech.
The social-democrat accused the minister of showing "total disrespect for the institution he temporarily oversees," referring to the position that Luís Neves holds on an interim basis during the Prime Minister's absence.
According to Carlos Rodrigues, Luís Neves used the opportunity to self-praise during his speech, which further motivated the vice-president of the Funchal City Council's criticism.
The episode was also marked by a heated exchange between the minister and a party leader, which contributed to Rodrigues' negative perception of Luís Neves' conduct on that occasion.
