The Municipality of Anadia approved the award of the rehabilitation works for the High Performance Center (CAR), in Sangalhos, for approximately 1.05 million euros, plus VAT. The work was awarded to the company ASO 211 Construções, Lda and has an execution period of 12 months.
The intervention includes the repair of the roofing of the nave and the accommodation unit, the improvement of logistical support areas such as garage, workshop and warehouse, the correction and painting of the velodrome floor, as well as waterproofing and painting of exterior and interior walls.
The CAR 211 National Velodrome of Anadia, inaugurated in 2009, hosts activities of the Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo and Fencing federations, having served as preparation for athletes for national and international competitions. The municipality highlighted that since its inauguration, Portuguese cycling has won numerous medals in major events, including the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Iuri Leitão and Ivo Oliveira became Olympic champions in Madison.
In 2019, the infrastructure received from the Union Cycliste Internationale the status of Cycling Continental Center, becoming the first Satellite Center of the World Cycling Center in Europe.
