Business leaders advocate for increased annual budget for Visit Azores

Açoriano Oriental1 September 2026 at 17:29

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada (CCIPD) argues that Visit Azores, the entity responsible for promoting tourism in the archipelago, should have an annual budget of at least 15 million euros.

The business institution also proposes the implementation of a multi-year tourism strategy for the Azores, ensuring "stable and predictable" funding for the destination, allowing for more consistent and long-term planning of the region's promotion.

Yield rise punishes European stock markets but PSI escapes. United States bombards Iran again

European stock markets closed in negative territory this Tuesday, penalized by the rise in sovereign debt yields that reached their highest levels since 2008, driven by tensions in the Middle East and the likelihood of new interest rate hikes by the ECB and Fed in September. Oil surged more than 3% following the US airstrikes against targets of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, near the Strait of Hormuz. The PSI escaped the negative scenario and closed up 0.44%, with Galp, Altri and Mota-Engil among the main gainers. Portuguese 10-year debt yields rose to 3.68%, while the US bombed Iran again, increasing uncertainty in global markets.
