Former mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD), candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro, criticized on Tuesday what he called the "PL government of Rio" following an operation by the Public Ministry against the so-called "meal box mafia" in the state's prisons. During a statement, Paes said the operation dismantled another corruption scheme in the prison system's canteens.
Paes attempted to link his opponent Douglas Ruas, the current PL candidate for Guanabara Palace, to the party's last governors, Cláudio Castro and Wilson Witzel. The former mayor declared that "this group stole in all areas of administration" and that Douglas Ruas represents the continuation of this political group.
The former mayor stated that the scheme in prison canteens is further proof of what he had been denouncing for a long time. According to Paes, the objective of the opponents is "to return to power to continue stealing," referring to the possible election of Douglas Ruas.
The Public Ministry's operation targeted a corruption scheme involving the canteens of the state prison system in Rio de Janeiro, revealing irregularities in the administration of these services in Rio's prisons.
