'Wish Ambulance': emergency vehicle transports terminal patients to fulfill their last wishes; understand

The Wish Ambulance is a volunteer project founded in 2007 that transports terminal patients to fulfill their last dreams before dying. The group operates in 22 countries and receives, manages, and carries out patient transfers who need medical assistance to fulfill special wishes.

The creator of the initiative was Kees Veldboer, a nurse who in 2007 met a patient named Mario, whose story changed his perspective on life. At the time, Mario had a medical appointment that was postponed, and Veldboer decided to take him for a sail, thus initiating the project.

The patients' wishes are varied and personalized. Some ask to see the sea, while others want to see their families one last time. Few terminal patients choose to take a ride around the city or the countryside, but the choice depends on each person and their specific wish.

The central question that the Wish Ambulance proposes is: "If you could fulfill one dream before dying, what would it be?" This reflection led the project to transform this question into reality for various people around the world, offering meaningful experiences in the final moments of life.

"Life has not been easy at all": Carla was a single mother, went back to work at 78 and at 101 she remains "passionate" about fashion

Carla Villa, an Italian woman of 101 about to turn 102, shared her life story marked by challenges and overcoming. She was a single mother in 1967, at a time of strong social prejudices, and raised her son Thomas alone with the support of her family. She lost her brother Aldo in World War II, in the battle of the Don, in Russia. At the age of 78, she went back to work in the same space in Milan where she had previously managed an antique shop for 18 years, temporarily replacing an employee in a bridal dress shop. At 101 years old, she maintains an interest in fashion, having previously designed her own dresses, and continues to live in the same family home on Via San Marco for the past 99 years. The article also addresses Portuguese rules on the accumulation of old-age pension with work income.
