Mary Austin, ex-girlfriend and principal heir of Freddie Mercury, gave an interview to The Guardian newspaper in which she recalled her life with the Queen leader. The interview comes at a time when Austin is preparing to edit a new book containing original lyrics of the band's songs and accounts of her life together with the star.
During the interview, Austin revealed a striking moment when Freddie Mercury was under the influence of morphine, constantly falling asleep. On one of those occasions, the singer woke up and addressed Austin, calling her "my faithful old lady," an expression that left her deeply disturbed.
Austin confessed to feeling like a dog upon hearing that designation. This revelation is part of the memories that Mercury's former girlfriend shared in the interview with the British newspaper.
The new book Austin is preparing will include original lyrics of Queen songs, as well as detailed accounts of her time with Freddie Mercury, offering a unique perspective on the famous singer's personal life.
