Metro Mondego is concluding a survey of vulnerabilities in the suburban channel between Coimbra and Lousã, after the connection to Serpins had been interrupted since January due to the instability of two slopes. The company's president, Leonel Serra, stated that the goal is to identify the necessary interventions and carry them out gradually, with approximately two million euros per year reserved for maintenance work.
Service between Lousã and Serpins was resumed on a six-kilometer section, after landslides at the beginning of the year required an investment of approximately three million euros to restore safety conditions. The company contracted IP Engenharia to technically support the survey and strengthen technical capacity in this process.
IP Engenharia was also contracted to support studies associated with the possible expansion of the Metrobus system to the municipalities of Condeixa-a-Nova, Cantanhede and Mealhada, as well as new extensions within the urban perimeter of Coimbra. Leonel Serra expects to have some necessary studies contracted by the end of the year.
The president of the Lousã City Council, Victor Carvalho, advocated for the creation of a Metrobus station in the Zona Industrial do Alto do Padrão, considering that it would improve service provision to the population. Leonel Serra revealed that internal instructions have already been given to assess the cost of the work, with a view to possible inclusion in the 2027 budget, with execution depending on approval from the overseeing authority.
