The leader of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, demanded this Monday a continuous and not merely reactive strategy in fire prevention in the region. The statements were made following the fires that affected the region over the past weekend.
The socialist lamented that the president of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, has adopted only isolated measures instead of a structured and permanent approach to deal with fires.
Pessegueiro emphasized that fire prevention cannot depend on isolated reactions whenever emergency situations occur, but rather on sustained and planned work throughout the entire year.
The leader of PS-Madeira considered that the regional executive should invest consistently in prevention and preparation to prevent situations like those experienced last weekend from recurring.
