The governing bodies of the Technical University of Porto (UTP), an institution that emerges from the transformation of a polytechnic institute, took office today in a ceremony that marks a new stage for higher education in the region.
The rector of UTP, Paulo Pereira, considered this a "historic moment" both for the Northern region and for Portuguese higher education, emphasizing the importance of creating this university for the country.
UTP results from the transformation of a polytechnic higher education institution into a university, a process that represents a significant change in the structure of higher education in the Porto and Northern Portugal region.
With the inauguration of the new governing bodies, the institution begins a new phase with university status, and must now meet the expectations generated by this transformation in the Portuguese educational landscape.
