The "Santa Ana" Fishermen's Guild of Llanes was distinguished with the 2026 Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias Award. The award recognizes the numerous initiatives of the institution related to sustainability and ocean care, including the organization of awareness workshops and beach cleanup days, among other activities.
The proposal was presented by the guild master, Ángel Batalla. The president of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, Francisco Rodríguez, communicated the award to Batalla while he was working at sea, meaning engaged in his fishing activities.
After informing Ángel Batalla, Francisco Rodríguez communicated the news to the mayor of Llanes, Enrique Riestra. The Fishermen's Guild was recognized for its set of activities focused on environmental preservation and education about the importance of oceans.
