The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) approved on Monday (31st) the medication Fruzaqla (fruquintinib) for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer in adults. Colorectal cancer is a malignant tumor that develops in the colon (large intestine) or rectum (final part of the intestine). When it is considered metastatic, it means the cancer has spread from the original organ to other parts of the body.
The medication is specifically intended for patients with this clinical diagnosis who have already undergone other treatments previously. The approval represents a new therapeutic option for people with this advanced stage of the disease.
The study that proved the medication's efficacy demonstrated significant clinical benefit in patients with previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer. The results showed a statistically significant increase in overall survival (OS) among patients who used Fruzaqla.
