The death toll in Nepal and Tibet from the floods that hit the border with China on last Wednesday (26) exceeded one thousand. The catastrophe began after the collapse of a glacier, which launched a large amount of ice, rocks, mud and debris onto the Himalayan rivers.
A total of 4,462 people are missing, with 546 in Tibetan territory and the rest in Nepalese territory. Among those missing in Nepal are 583 foreigners from more than 30 nationalities, while in China the missing include 261 foreigners from 23 countries.
The flood destroyed cities, roads, bridges and hydroelectric plants, mainly near the border with China. The border region between the two countries was severely affected by the disaster.
