Music and environmental sustainability hand in hand at Jazz em Monserrate

Correio de Sintra1 September 2026 at 10:17

The Jazz em Monserrate festival returns to Monserrate Park and Palace with a program that combines music and environmental awareness. Promoted by Parques de Sintra, the event includes for the first time workshops dedicated to the conservation of natural heritage, reinforcing the environmental component inspired by the institution's daily work in enhancing biodiversity. This year's edition has artistic direction by Inês Laginha and the theme "Other Times", exploring jazz as a way of inhabiting time through improvisation and listening.

The musical program features names such as Daniel Bernardes, Becca Stevens, João Barradas Trio with Jonathan Kreisberg, Rita Maria and Angélica Salvi, and Mateus Saldanha, covering concerts, music-led cinema, Jazz for Babies sessions, jam sessions and a masterclass. João Sousa Rego, president of the Board of Parques de Sintra, emphasizes that biodiversity and ecological balance are fundamental axes of the company's actions, intending to bring the community closer to the challenges of nature conservation.

Three workshops complement the festival's offering. On Friday September 11, at 5:00 PM, beekeeper Telmo Cabral leads a session on pollinators, linked to the apiary project in the Serra de Sintra that gave rise to the "Mel da Condessa d'Edla" brand. On Saturday 12, at 4:30 PM, producer and nurseryman Mauro Pereira shares knowledge about fruit tree grafting and its historical importance in the Sintra Cultural Landscape. On Sunday 13, at 3:30 PM, permaculturist Sílvia Floresta leads a workshop on mushroom production and its role in ecosystems.

Participation in the workshops is free for festival ticket holders, subject to prior registration. Daily concerts cost 20 euros, Jazz for Babies sessions cost 15 euros (for one adult and one child), jam sessions are free with park entry, and the masterclass is free subject to registration. The festival has the support of the "la Caixa" Foundation, BPI, Sintra City Council and Smooth FM radio as official partner.

According to the artist's lawyers, the registration in the Court of Justice of Pará is merely a procedural development for settling small court costs. The statement says there is no debt in the cited amount and that this would be the amount in dispute of a lawsuit already dismissed that proceeded under a secrecy order.
