Tomar receives 200 thousand euros for cleaning the Nabão river

Observador1 September 2026 at 11:52

The City Council of Tomar received support of 200 thousand euros destined for the cleaning of the Nabão river. This amount is part of a broader set of Government measures to address the damage caused by the storms that hit the country in January and February.

The total value mobilized by the Executive to recover the territories affected by these storms amounts to 4.2 million euros. This amount is being distributed among several municipalities that suffered significant impacts from the extreme weather conditions those two months.

The cleaning of the Nabão river in Tomar thus fits within the strategy for the rehabilitation of areas affected by the bad weather episodes at the beginning of the year. The City Council of Tomar is one of the beneficiary entities of this government support package.

Public Function Unions Call General Careers Strike for October 2

Three public function union structures linked to CGTP – FNSTFPS, STAL, and STML – called a general careers strike for October 2, affecting approximately 350,000 workers in central, indirect, local, and regional public administration. The unions demand immediate salary appreciation, recognition of professional specificities, and immediate start of negotiations, accusing the PSD/CDS-PP Government of having left these professionals "the worst paid in public administration" for last over the last two years. A demonstration is scheduled in Lisbon for the same day at 11am, and the unions acknowledge that the strike will cause disruptions to public services, including school closures and garbage collection problems, but argue that the action is necessary to improve the delivery of public services.
