Firefighters from Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim reinforce medical emergency with two new ambulances

Jornal do Algarve1 September 2026 at 11:20

The Firefighters of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim now have two new ambulances serving medical emergencies. The information was shared by the mayor of Castro Marim, Filomena Sintra, in a social media post, in which she highlighted that the vehicles are described as modern and robust, having received the blessing of the patron saints of each municipality.

The reinforcement of the firefighters' resources results from a collaboration between the two municipalities, which, despite political differences, have been joining efforts in building a strong and increasingly robust institution. According to the mayor, municipal investment in the fire department currently exceeds one million euros per year, with the delivery of four new combat vehicles imminent.

The two new ambulances were acquired through long-term lease contracts, a solution that had the support of private entities. Filomena Sintra thanked the contribution of Frusoal, Hotel Vasco da Gama, and a sponsor who chose to remain anonymous, also leaving a word of recognition to all who contribute to strengthening the firefighters' resources.

The mayor also highlighted the acquisition of new equipment and the improvement of salary conditions for professionals, as well as the existence of four permanent special teams, which makes this fire department the only one in the Algarve with this structure, co-funded equally by the two municipalities and the Portuguese State. For Filomena Sintra, the joint effort aims to reinforce response capacity and guarantee better safety and rescue conditions for the populations.
