Writer Carla Madeira, considered Brazil's most-read author, gave an interview on the video podcast "Conversa vai, conversa vem," available on OGLOBO Newspaper's YouTube and Spotify. In the conversation, she talked about the presence of sex in her books, explaining that she uses the same reasoning she uses when talking about food: "because people eat, right," just as "people have sex." She is launching her fourth novel, "Quando," which already ranks first on the most-read works list of the literary portal Publish News.
The author explained how she seeks to work on female sexuality in her works, a theme that permeates her books. In "Tudo é Rio," the character Lucy is a prostitute who enjoys what she does, which, according to her, sounds like an affront to many. In "Quando," the character Margarida is described as having "her hips crushed."
Carla Madeira also became emotional when recounting the impact she had when debating issues about female libido with women deprived of their liberty during visits to prisons. The theme sparked great reaction among the inmates during these encounters.
