The Municipality of Ponte de Lima issued a note of recognition for Fernando Pimenta, considering him "one of the greatest athletes of all time" in Portuguese and world sport. The council highlighted the athlete's resilience, determination and path of excellence, which has made him a reference in national and international kayaking.
Fernando Pimenta is native to Ponte de Lima and was formed on the Lima river, having taken the municipality's name to the highest levels of world sport. The municipal council pointed to him as "one of the great ambassadors of Ponte de Lima," constituting a source of pride for all the people of Lima.
The council also congratulated coach Hélio Lucas Araújo, underscoring the work developed together with Fernando Pimenta. According to the note, together they have shown to be "a pair of winners" that has brought much joy to Ponte de Lima and to those passionate about sport.
