Rio de Janeiro recorded this Tuesday, September 1st, strong winds throughout the city, with gusts reaching 70 km/h at Forte de Copacabana, in the South Zone, between 5am and 6am. Winds above 60 km/h were also recorded at Galeão Airport and close to that value at Santos Dumont Airport, according to information from Centro de Operações Rio. Light rain alerts were issued for various points in the capital, including Tijuca, Grajaú, and Méier.
According to Alerta Rio, the situation is caused by the passage of a cold front, which brings forecast of increased cloudiness and light to moderate rain during the morning. From the afternoon, moderate to heavy rain showers are expected, accompanied by thunder. Winds should vary between moderate (18.5 km/h to 51.9 km/h) and locally strong gusts (52 km/h to 76 km/h).
The forecasted temperatures for the day are a minimum of 19°C and a maximum of 30°C. The meteorological service Climatempo estimates rainfall of up to 4mm starting in the late afternoon.
