Lack of national integration is a challenge in combating smuggling

cbn1 September 2026 at 10:55

The Federal Revenue has faced difficulties in combating the smuggling of irregular medications, smuggled cell phones, and drugs, products that have already appeared on the agency's seizure lists this year. The Deputy Regional Superintendent of the Federal Revenue, Erivelto Alencar, acknowledges that the agency plays a fundamental role in combating this type of crime, but still faces significant challenges.

Brazil has several borders that pose growing challenges, including land, airport, and maritime borders. The dynamics of smuggling are very complex, with different types of products being brought from abroad to Brazil at different times, which makes inspection even more difficult.

The main difficulty identified is the lack of integration between the agencies that work in inspection and public security. Erivelto Alencar highlights that there is an urgent need for greater cooperation between these agencies, in addition to greater international cooperation to effectively address the problem.

The Superintendent recognizes that there is still much to evolve in this regard, as many integration initiatives between inspection agencies have been identified that need to be improved and coordinated more efficiently to strengthen the fight against smuggling in the country.
