The Municipal Services of Viana do Castelo announced that 70 tonnes of waste were collected after the Festas da Senhora d'Agonia, information shared on the council's official Facebook page.
The cleaning operation involved five waste transport vehicles, three mechanical sweepers and 34 workers, totalling 2,300 hours of work to ensure the complete collection of the litter left during the festival days.
To facilitate proper waste disposal, more than 100 disposal points were installed, including 17 containers, 60 bag holders and 29 recycling points distributed throughout the festival area.
The Festas da Senhora d'Agonia are one of the most traditional and important pilgrimages in northern Portugal, attracting thousands of visitors to the city of Viana do Castelo.
